Frequently Asked Questions

Here's the answers to our most common questions that we regularly get asked. If you're still unsure, feel free to contact us.

What does my child wear to their first class?

First classes can be a little intimidating, we always recommend wearing comfortable clothes to your first class, something like leggings and a t-shirt, or if you have some uniform from previous classes, this will be ideal. Usually bare feet will be no problem for the first week, however if you’re joining us for one of our tap classes, a pair of structured shoes will do just fine until we get you into your tap shoes.

How do I order and receive my uniform?

All our uniform can be easily ordered from our website shop.

Class uniform will usually be brought into your child’s class the week after placing your order, however sometimes there is a delay and some items are out of stock. We will always bring your uniform into class as soon as we can.

Willow Branded uniform such as t-shirts, hoodies, drinks bottles etc are all custom ordered and there is usually a 2-3 week wait for these. As always though, as soon as your uniform arrives, we’ll bring it straight to class for you.

How do I pay for my child’s classes?

We use an online booking system here at Willow, you can book and pay for all your classes via our website.

From our timetable page, just click on a class you would like to join and you’ll be taken to a table of class options, you’ll need to select your venue from the drop down menu on the top right, then select your class and add it to your basket, once you have completed this process for each class you would like to join, you can proceed through the registration and payment process.

Once we have all your information, you can save your chosen card information securely in our database, which means we’ll automatically enroll your child in their classes each term and you’ll never need to lift a finger again. PHEW!

Can I refer a friend?

We absolutely love when our Willow dancers bring their friends along to trial and join our classes! We welcome everyone with open arms and this is how our dance family has grown to be so wholesome and caring.

What grade should my child join?

Our classes are often based on ability rather than age (with the exception of a few of our in-school classes) so it’s best to get in touch and enquire, we are experts and we can place someone in the right class for them once we know a bit more about them.  It’s important that a new student doesn’t feel they are in a group of much younger children, but also that they don't  feel overwhelmed by the standard and speed of the lesson they are taking. It’s best to start from where is comfortable, as we can always build from there.

What is ISTD? And what is involved with exams?

ISTD is our Dance Board - The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. We take huge pride in our membership with such a prestigious establishment and we are passionate about all the work we produce. Examinations with ISTD are Ofqual registered qualifications, this means that once your child reaches a certain level, they will be awarded UCAS points towards any future university applications.

Examinations within Willow are always entirely optional, students who opt to not take an exam will still progress to the next grade with their peers and will still  be invited to take their next exam. Our fully qualified and experienced teachers will run coaching sessions during the term of any dance exams, these coaching sessions are essential preparation. All students must enter their examination in the Willow uniform for their grade, which will need to be purchased ahead of time so that our teachers can ensure everyone is unified and looking the part. Finally, dance exams help our students mark all the hard work they put into their classes each week, it is a very special occasion for them and an all round great experience for them as they progress through their dance training.

My child already dances at another school, can I still register with Willow?

We will always welcome new dancers into our school, and we believe it is hugely beneficial for a student to learn a variety of genres. Please come along and trial one of our classes, and we’ll take things from there.

Do you offer any discounts?

We offer a 5% sibling discount for every child registered after your 1st.

We also offer discount for Willow dancers who attend more than 3 classes each week.

Are there any performance opportunities?

Willow holds a school dance production every two years, this is held within a Surrey theatre and is a wonderful performance opportunity for all our Willow dancers. We also take part in local fairs where we can. When an external opportunity arises locally, we will share this information with our students so that any passionate performers can put themselves forward for auditions should they wish to.
